KCI has been involved with an alternative method of deploying Sealant into Voids. This method would be utilised where, at first, only one Port In appears to be available. Only having one “Port In” can cause issues during deployment as there is a potential to “Hydraulically Lock” the Void in which Sealant is being deployed, although, if this were to happen it would be possible to continue deployment using the “Lubricate and Bleed” method. Ideally, this method would be used when a Full Fill is required and there is limited access into the Void. By utilising the Through Bore Tie Down Bolt the ability for a “Port In” and “Port Out” is achievable. This method would require the removal of a Tie Down Bolt from the Casing Spool and in place, the Through Bore Tie Down Bolt would be inserted. This Tie Down Bolt would be drilled through the full bore with one end being tapped to 1/8” NPT. This thread will give the ability to crossover from the Tie Down Bolt to the KCI Deployment Tooling package. At the chamfered end, 4 holes have been drilled at 90° to each other, this allows for Sealant to flow through the bore with as little restriction as possible. On a recent job assisting one of our North Sea Customers, this method was trialled, proven and deemed a success saving the Customer money, time and further loss of production.
