The 74LS90 binary counter was showing random jumps during the count.
At first, I tested different ideas, including adding a pull-up resistor and changing the input behavior. But the real problem was the push button bounce.
A mechanical switch does not always send one clean pulse. One press can create several fast pulses, making the counter jump unexpectedly.
To verify it, I replaced the push button with a 555 timer in astable mode. With clean clock pulses from the 555, the 74LS90 counted perfectly.
That confirmed the issue: the counter was fine. The push button signal was not.
After solving the clock problem, I moved from the binary LED count to BCD output and a 7-segment LED display for digital counting.
