In this video, I talk about the general idea of a surface code particularly what it means to represent stabilizers as faces and vertices of certain graphs. I discuss this in generality and then talk about the specific case of toric code where stabilizers are basically defined on a torus which is a square lattice with periodic boundary conditions. I discuss how error correction occurs in such codes particularly how the boundary of different objects contains information about the errors. I also talk about how there are 4 different inequivalent classes of errors based on how they loop around the torus.
