Definition: R Squared, also known as the coefficient of determination, is a statistical measure that represents the proportion of the variance in the dependent variable that is predictable from the independent variables in a regression model. Sum of Squares of Residuals (SSR) is the sum of the squared differences between the observed values and the values predicted by the model. Total Sum of Squares (SST) is the sum of the squared differences between the observed values and the mean of the observed values. Interpretation: Rsquared ranges from 0 to 1, where: 0 indicates that the model explains none of the variability of the response data around its mean. 1 indicates that the model explains all the variability of the response data around its mean. A higher Rsquared value signifies a better fit of the model to the data, meaning that a greater proportion of the variance is explained by the model. A lower Rsquared value suggests that the model does not explain much of the variance and may not be a good predictor. Usage: Rsquared is commonly used in regression analysis to assess the goodness-of-fit of the model. It helps in evaluating the effectiveness of the model and comparing different models.
