Hi Everyone! Read below for the in-depth details! Drill each of these steps until you are comfortable with them before moving on to the next. And if you have any troubles doing a certain step, go back and refine the previous steps. STEP 1: The GREEN line represents the axis and path of motion that the middle of your leg (or the knee) will be traveling...STRAIGHT BACK. It is important that your leg stays straight when doing this because the more momentum you have, the better. In order to do this correctly, I think of leading the swing of my leg with the back of my knee. DON'T swing up with your heel! Swinging with the back of the knee will automatically drive the heel up (the BLUE line represents this). The RED circle represents where I place my hand. Notice that my swinging foot is also in the red circle at the beginning of the setup. Keep them in the same general area. STEP 2: I call it a cartwheel because usually when people think gumbi, they think arch your back and they get confused with the motion. But really, from my experience, I've attained the same result (a gumbi) from doing a front swing cartwheel. If you can cartwheel, you can gumbi. When doing the cartwheel, you should start facing one way, and be facing directly behind you (180 degrees) when you finish. The BLUE line represents the path of motion that my outside arm travels. In a very circular motion. Both of my hands do not come down at the same time. They come down one after the other. My outside arm needs to travels in a full circle in order to set my body on the correct axis to travel on. My other arm is represented by the GREEN line and as you can see, it travels straight down. This solidifies my base as I cartwheel, and allows me to more carefully place my outside arm on the ground next to it. The RED line represents the leg following my takeoff leg, which finishes swinging through. ALWAYS finish swinging through for good habits. If you want to pop flash or something in the future, you can do that once you have a good understanding of how to swing. If you stop your leg on the ground, either you are physically stopping your momentum, or not going all the way around. We don't want to stop our momentum, we want to let our momentum follow through to reach its end naturally. And if you're not going all the way around, make sure you are facing 180 away from where you started. STEP 3: Same as step 2, just on one hand with a hop out. The GREEN line represents the path of travel my hand travels. Once it reaches STRAIGHT DOWN for the ground, your hands rebound you back up (think round off or front/back handspring). Everthing else remains the same as step 2. The RED line represents finishing with a swing thru! ALWAYS DO THAT! STEP 4: Take off your second hand and drive your leg up as hard as you can into a cartwheel. This is where Webster and Gymnast Aerial really become helpful because the backwards kick/swing is exactly the same. Drive it STRAIGHT BACK and UP HARD, and turn your body just like a cartwheel to finish facing 180 degrees from where you started. And then BOOM you got a raiz. Also, if you want to invert it more, that is solely dependent on how hard you drive your leg up. Congratulations! Now play around and experiment with it and see what you can do! The first clip is Raiz swing gainer (kick the moon). The second is sideswipe. The third is a blockbuster setup into raiz. And the last clip is a Scoot to skip raiz. And once again thanks for watching! If there's another move you want to see a tutorial for, let me know in the comments below! I'm thinking about doing helicoptero next.
