When I learned the fundamentals of Raman it was all equations and no pictures. A few years later, I am finally starting to get a grasp of the material so I thought I would make this video.
This video attempts to give the viewer a visual intuition of Raman and Rayleigh scattering. This is the type of light scattering that happens when the wavelength of light is on the order of the molecular length scales. A classical derivation of the induced dipole moment is also given.
I should mention that I'm not positive I2 is a better scatterer than F2, but my intuition tells me it is probably so. However I never spent the time to look it up and confirm it as a fact, so please correct me in the comments if that is wrong.
