In this series of videos I'll be assembling an RC2014 Pro, a Z80 based microcomputer available for purchase online. I received this as a Christmas gift from Mrs B, after giving her some significant hints as to what I'd like. The RC2014 is a brilliant design IMHO, and will be used by me as the foundation for many of my Z80-based hardware and software experiments. In this video I'm assembling the backplane, specifically the backplane pro, with 12 slots, 5 of which have enhanced headers, the remaining 7 are standard. It's mostly header, with a handful of discrete components, a power jack, reset button and a switch. The six modules I assembled previously will plug into this, leaving me with 6 spare to experiment with or expand my RC2014. I only spotted that during the edit, and was unable to reshoot as I'd already soldered the components on the board by that time. Chapters: 00:00 Intro 00:54 Locating the enhanced and standard bus header positions 04:10 Tacking the headers in position 15:17 Test fitting the boards in the tacked-in headers 17:35 Soldering the capacitors 28:50 Identifying and soldering the resistors 34:00 Soldering the LED 36:44 Soldering the reset button and power switch 40:30 Soldering the power jack socket 43:33 Soldering the remaining headers and terminals 49:20 Finished! 49:36 Rough test plan 51:32 Outro And finally!
