Reality to Simulation with 3D Scanners
Quickly turning a physical object into a digital one is the kind of sci-fi future I wanted to live in. And I've talked a lot about going from simulation to reality. So what about going the other way? I purchased an Einstar 3D scanner, both for my racecar projects, and for digital twin work. I feel we're at an inflection point where these devices are incredibly powerful for the cost. Aligning meshes with a single click? Wild. I'm going to be honest with you, I actually scanned this so I can make brake ducts and aero panels for my fenders. But, I think just as easily this suspension part could be a highly irregular textured object that needs to be trained against a vision algorithm. Or let's say we're adding a robot to a workspace. We could quickly scan the environment, bring that into hashtag#NVIDIAIsaacSim, and perform training or collision detection. Feeling super inspired by these tools.
