This toy is a century old demonstration of a college level math concept called recursion. If the towers of hanoi don't sound familiar, then keep watching to learn more and find out how this toy teaches a topic commonly used in computer science and discrete math! Here's how it teaches toddlers college level math. Designed a little over a century ago, the math behind this toy is called recursion and its taught in many college computer science, programming, and discrete math courses. Instead of a mathematical formula or calculation though, recursion is more of a problem solving framework that mathematicians and programmers use to analytically solve problems by breaking a large problem up into smaller sub-problems, which is qutie the analytical procedure! The way the toy, or towers of hanoi, employ this framework is as follows. Since the solution to this math puzzle is based on the solution of a smaller version of that math riddle, we can continuously break the poroblem down until all we have to move is the top piece of this college level math problem. And from there, we can keep building on the smaller solutions, but I won't spoil the rest for you :) Thank you to: Mind Your Decisions, Syber Math, and Zach Star. For years they’ve been making math interesting and inspired me to give it a shot too! #recursion #maths #mathstricks Music: ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Morning Station by Tokyo Music Walker https://soundcloud.com/user-356546060 Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/morning-station Music promoted by Audio Library
