Words hurt...in fact they leave permanent internal wounds. Every time your tongue feels the need to slice into someone else, remember how deep it can cut. As someone who has battled with self image since elementary school, I can attest to the impact that stemmed from the negative things my peers said to and about me. For this short project for one of my college courses, my friend allowed me to write the words they carry with them each and every day. Although these words can be washed away on the surface by physical changes, they still remain within our heads every time we look into the mirror or go out into the world.
As my mother always said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
