Reductive Amination
I set up a reductive amination. First I added the aldehyde and the amine into a round bottom flask. Then, I poured in some methanol in order to dissolve the solids. After that, I dropped in a stir bar and switched on the stirring. In order to accelerate the formation of the imine or iminium ion, I also added a few drops of acetic acid. Finally, I added the reducing agent. Disclaimer: All chemical reactions demonstrated in this video are performed by trained professionals in a controlled laboratory environment.
