Reflection

Reflection is a classic song from Disney’s Mulan, known for its beautiful and lyrical melody. José was also deeply moved after watching the film and went on to create his own piece, “Um Lugar Especial.” （https://youtu.be/M-Io4bc-5qE?si=3MUt6wqZC6nMWgJb） This piece, performed in a Western pop style with subtle Eastern influences, carries rich emotional layers. In our arrangement, we use guitar and guzheng—one Western and one Eastern instrument—to represent two different cultural backgrounds while blending them seamlessly together. In this collaborative performance video, José plays the guitar and handles the mixing and production, while SsuTi performs on the guzheng. To follow the key change in the middle of the original piece, we used two guzhengs and incorporated a sweeping glissando to transition into the next section of the melody.
