Reimagining Plastic
In the world of sustainability, when we think of plastic, we think of something that is toxic and harmful. But plastic is actually a very useful and versatile material. It is both light and strong. It can take any shape and it literally lasts forever. It has helped us a lot in the health, transport and clean energy sectors. So the problem then is not the material itself, but its over consumption. These days, because of consumerism, plastic is being used and discarded so casually that it has become worthless. Especially single-use plastics. At Théla, we address plastic waste in various ways. We handcraft with discarded plastic, with artisan communities in India and Greece to make premium fashion and lifestyle accessories. Through our designs we want to urge consumers to reimagine plastic to be the versatile and long-lasting material that it is, and not something that should be used and discarded so casually.
