From late February until March 6th, the Alamo Mission was held by Texas rebels against the Mexican Army led by general Santa Anna, the self styled “Napoleon of the West.” The outnumbered Texans held out for as long as possible before the mission was overtaken. Santa Anna had ordered no one to be taken prisoner, and the last stage of the battle resulted in all of the defenders fighting till their deaths.
The battle soon became a major event in Texas and American history. This song was written and performed by Donovan
