REMOTE CONTROL T26 Scale model tractor
After playing with my Benz car I thought it would be a good idea to fit some remotes to this tractor. I just needed 4 micro servos, a transmitter and receiver (RadioLink RC6GS v3) and some space for some extra batteries…and a few days to make a few brackets and put it all together. The servos fitted up nicely but I had to extend the back of the tractor about 12mm and I’ve had to remove the hand brake band. There’s not much room under there but I’ve managed to fit 8 x AAA batteries for the servos along with the original battery box for the ignition as well as the receiver and a guard to protect everything from any rotating parts i.e. the differential and drive gears. Initially I fitted a worm gear to the steering linkage to get the effect of having the steering wheel turning. I had to extend the steering shaft, modify some gears and modify a servo so that it would continuously turn. This servo was the reason that I fitted so many batteries in the back as I thought this servo would drain the batteries pretty quick but it turns out the whole setup was too slow so I removed it and fitted a normal servo. Steering works fine now but I’ve had to disconnect the steering wheel. I would like to paint the complete model but until I can get the oil leaks under control there is no point. I’ve added o rings to both sides of the crankshaft, installed a cover over the cdi unit and sealed up the rocker cover but oil seems to leak from god knows where and gets everywhere. The servos are not water proof so that might be my next move, dismantle them and try to seal them up. The receiver and transmitter loose contact with each other every now and then, I just have to flick the receiver off and on again and it comes good but I would like to know why it is doing it. Could be because of oil seeping into the servos or the proximity for the receiver to the batteries or it could be that the cdi unit is causing trouble. I’ve moved the antenna to the outside of the model and ran it in some hose but that hasn’t helped either. #miniatureengine #scalemodel #scalemodels #modelengine mini tractor engine
