My house has three of these gable vents that are stained to match the house. This is a video of the second repair. The first went more smoothly, where I was able to leave the frame in. place and simply slide and fasten the slats into the frame. In this case I had to remove and rebuild the entire thing.
Purchased 4" cedar fence posts from Home Depot, cut, planed, and beveled the edges to match the existing slats, and then. used leftover stain to stain them. I know its not a perfect match because of weathering, but its good enough for me. Come along for the ride. Fairly easy job.
