Resident Evil's tension curdles, its pace is weighted, its undercurrent of corporate conspiracy and bioterrorism is patient, and its mechanical horror hangs on a razor’s edge while making an intense, satisfying loop. If these walls could scream they'd tell you to turn back. Maybe its longevity is just because of time. Resident Evil is three decades old. It defined a whole sub-genre in survival horror. Maybe it’s because of its prevalence. Directors Cuts, Remakes, Remasters of the Remakes, terrible films, good-enough films, a board game, a stage show, and a book series have kept the mansion’s memory alive.
