July 14-20, 2025 Through years of disquiet about the shabby and ongoing deterioration of the highway out front, something is finally being done about it. Ducks are raising a large number of chicks in Otter Pond; Insley, the-disrupter-in-chief, is on it. The driveway is narrowing again in this summer of ample rains. Time to again push the borders back. The barn swallows have begun their all-day long, full time feeding frenzy. Life on the bog is about living life in the slow lane, observing and recording the artistry and serenity of the natural world. Insley and I live together on forty-acres of forest and bog, sharing frequent moments of unexpected wonder.
