RF30 - 1a - Captive Drawbar
New project! I'm doing a captive drawbar for the milling machine. I filmed the machining of these parts, but I shot this quickly to explain to a few friends what I was working on. A captive drawbar is a drawbar that doesn't lift itself up out of the spindle. Looking into the future, I see a 3/4" R8 collet holding a small library of Tormach TTS tool holders and programmed tool length offsets, and deep into the future, maybe a power drawbar. A weird surface finish on the parts that matches the pitch of the leadscrew on the lathe has me wondering if there's a chip in the half nut. I could polish it off the bushing, but maybe the roughness might be good for the Loctite to grip onto. The "nut" section on top is going to have a hex machined on it so no sense in cleaning it up. Part 1b (if I edit and post it) will be machining the bushing. Part 0 will be a CAD model showing the project overview. Yeah, I'm doing a Star Wars job of the release order. This video was really only shot on my phone to show a few friends what's going on.
