Ribblehead Circular

A strenuous walk taking in the Ribblehead Viaduct and the Blea Moor Tunnel. Plenty of ups and downs, with mainly good paths, but some muddy bits and some road walking. It's a chance though, after the Viaduct, to get away from the crowds and the groups of people heading up Whernside. There are fine views over Blea Moor towards Dent Head - tranquil and solitary. The air shafts above the tunnel are curious and grand features. One farmyard to go through - the geese are feisty, but more noise than bite! We enjoyed a comfortable night at the Station Inn at Ribblehead. At the time of writing, they had an excellent range of cask real ale in the bar - and a Northern Rail Indicator Board so that you can keep an eye out for your train. The dinners are big, hearty and tasty - and breakfast was high-quality traditional English Breakfast items, with pancakes and vegetarian items available.
