We finally made it to the famous river rafting experience that dominates the local tourist activities. We learned that the guys who guide these rafts down the river can make serious money. And that local families in the area are paid a government subsidy so they choose to relax or to engage in the tourism industry (they are paid either way). This is a place in China without factories. That means it's a very clean environment but also historically very poor. But everywhere we looked, people were thriving and happy. The locals joke that when this place was popular with foreign backpackers, they lost lots of daughters to marriage and moving to Europe. Many of those ladies have since returned and say they prefer life here to what they had in various EU countries. It's not hard to see why. It's super safe, clean, fun, and interesting here. ♥️👍🇨🇳
