The book of Romans was written by the Apostle Paul around A.D. 57 to the church in Rome, a diverse group of Jewish and Gentile believers navigating tensions surrounding identity, grace, and the Gospel. Though Paul had not yet visited them, he wrote to strengthen their faith, unify the church around Christ, and clearly explain the Gospel he preached. Romans presents the clearest picture of humanity’s sin, God’s righteousness, salvation by grace through faith, and the transforming power of life in Christ. The Gospel is not advice about what you must do; it is an announcement about what Christ has done.
