Rowing An Effective Force Curve - Second Half Acceleration Techniques

In this video, I do my best to examine the ways in which stroke mechanics effect the second half of the force curve. It becomes harder and harder to keep the curve convex as you progress toward the end of the drive phase. There are three things that can help you work the second half of the curve. 1) Not opening the body up too early so that the trunk swing through is used too early and is unavailable to sustain force through the release. 2) Keeping tension between the foot stretcher and seat using your legs so that there is a solid connection between the handle and the foot stretcher so that work can continue to be done in an effective manner. 3) Coordinating the trunk and arms to finish at the same time, allows the force curve to have a better chance of remaining convex through to the end of the stroke. There is also a certain level of trunk strength required to continue to apply force in this manner as well, but I am choosing to discuss the skill acquisitions here, rather than discuss the strength requirements.
