RR7525A NAMIBIA REPORT
(21 Jun 1975) RR7525A NAMIBIA REPORT In Namibia (South-West Africa), Nationalist groups, led by SWAPO, have long campaigned for independence from Pretoria. The UN supports them. In 1974, an attempt was made to have South Africa expelled from the world body over the issue. This month, an arms embargo was called for, and only the veto of the US, UK and France prevented both measures. We look at the political aspects, talk to SWAPO and white leaders and to religious leaders including a last interview with Bishop Wood of Damaraland before his expulsion. Also shown are the giant Ruacana hydro- electric project and the lucrative diamond industry at Oranjemund.
