Ruby Mae just revealed the secret behind her feel good soul sound and it all started with spontaneous jam sessions in a Liverpool studio. The rising artist opened up about her debut EP “Movement,” explaining that she wanted to create music packed with joy, soul, and pure positive energy that people could dance to while forgetting about life’s stress for a while. She described latest single “Make You Feel Good” as both a celebration of happiness and a tribute to the people in life who lift you up rather than drag you down. Ruby also admitted the sound of the EP happened completely naturally during her very first writing sessions with collaborators Glenn Roberts and Rich Turvey, instantly making her realise she had finally found the style of music she truly wanted to make. Ruby also gave a brilliant behind the scenes look into her songwriting and live show world, revealing that most tracks begin with improvised jam sessions and funky basslines before lyrics are added later. She confessed writing emotional songs can sometimes be difficult, but credited her collaborators with helping turn her thoughts into fully formed songs. Away from the studio, Ruby shared excitement about returning to live shows with a full band, including a newly announced headline performance at Camden Assembly and an upcoming appearance at Rock Oyster Festival alongside acts including Scissor Sisters. She also revealed the chaos of tour life with her six piece band, from cramming into tiny green rooms to blasting hype music and playing GTA in the van before gigs, while joking that nobody is allowed control of the playlist because she insists her music taste is the best.
