We discuss a family of surfaces which are unions of straight lines. These surfaces are called ruled surfaces, and are interesting because of their curvature properties. Not only do they have nice curvature properties, but some of the some elementary examples of surfaces that we know are ruled: cylinders and cones! We discuss how to parameterize these surfaces and ponder how to find interesting examples of them!
