Salem is a city in northern Columbiana county, Ohio. The word "Salem" comes from the word "Jerusalem" which means "City of Peace" many of the early towns people belonged to the Religious Society of Friends, known as the Quakers. Salem was incorporated in 1830. Salem was a major hub in the American Underground Railroad. Salem is known for a small big city. It's a beautiful downtown area with a lot going on. Great shops, and restaurants. Two of my favorites right off the top are The Foundry, and Ricky's English Pub. It really feels like the holidays are here walking the streets down town all in lights and store fronts decorated. You never know who you will run into. While I was there I ran into the Grinch, and Salem has even put him in the holiday spirit.
