SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19, consists of several structural components that contribute to its infectivity and pathogenicity. Key components include the spike (S) protein, which facilitates cell entry by binding to ACE2 receptors, the envelope (E) and membrane (M) proteins that help maintain viral structure, and the nucleocapsid (N) protein, which protects the viral RNA genome. The RNA genome itself directs the synthesis of these proteins and drives replication, while accessory proteins support immune evasion and virus-host interactions.
