“Scaffold” is a song about creation, sin, redemption, and the finished work of Jesus Christ, told through the picture of a house under repair. Before humanity ever opened its eyes, God had already built the house. He created the heavens and the earth, light and darkness, land and sea, trees and fruit, sun and moon, birds and animals, beauty and order. The world was not broken in the beginning. It was good. It was clean. It was whole. Like a perfect mansion built from scratch with no cracks in the walls, no death in the frame, no sorrow in the rooms, and no curse over the foundation. But then sin entered. What God made good, sin damaged. The walls began to crack. Death came through the doorway. Creation groaned. Humanity was separated from God, and the perfect house was no longer untouched. But God did not abandon what He made. From the very beginning, He promised redemption. The sacrifices, the priesthood, the tabernacle, the temple, the law, the prophets, and the shadows of the Old Testament were like scaffolding around a damaged house. They were real. They served a purpose. They pointed forward. But they were never the final repair. A scaffold is temporary. It goes up because work needs to be done. It surrounds what is broken while the repair is being prepared. It gives access to what needs restoration. But when the true work is finished, the scaffold does not stay forever. That is what this song is about. The law was holy, (BUT IT COULD NOT SAVE). The sacrifices were commanded, but they could "NOT" fully remove sin forever. The priests stood daily, but their work kept repeating. Every lamb, every altar, every shadow, every promise was pointing to Someone greater. Then God took on flesh. Jesus Christ entered the broken house. He lived the perfect life Adam did not live. He obeyed where humanity failed. He touched the wreckage, carried our sins in His body on the tree, and went to the cross as the true Lamb of God. At the cross, the final cost was paid. The veil was torn. The debt was canceled. The Cornerstone stood where the broken house had fallen. When Jesus cried, “It is finished,” the scaffold came down. Not because the law was evil, but because its purpose had been fulfilled in Christ. Not because the sacrifices meant nothing, but because the final sacrifice had come. Not because God changed His mind, but because God finished what He promised from the beginning. “Scaffold” is also a warning. Many people are still trying to build their own scaffold. Good works. Religion without Christ. Tradition. Pride. Personal effort. Trying to paint over cracks that only God can heal. But no human ladder can reach heaven. No self-made repair can fix the heart. No one can restore what sin destroyed except the Savior. The only hope is Jesus Christ. The song points to the promise of the Holy Spirit, the seal given to those who belong to Christ. Those who trust in Him are forgiven, sealed, restored, and promised future glory. The work was finished at the cross, but the fullness of restoration is still coming. One day, there will be no more cracks, no more curse, no more death, no more night, and no more pain. God will make all things new. This song is for anyone who knows the house is broken. It is for the one who has tried to fix themselves and failed. It is for the one who knows guilt is real but grace is greater. It is for the one who sees the damage of sin and needs the finished work of Christ. It is for the one who has been trying to climb a ladder when Jesus already came down to save. The scaffold was temporary. The Savior is forever. The work was finished at the cross. And glory is coming forever.
