In this video, Capture 3D Application Engineer Dane, will demonstrate some of the most common Scan to CAD Alignment Methods in GOM Inspect Software 2019. Index 2:13 – 3-2-1 Alignment 3:48 – Prealignment 5:20 – Local Best-Fit 7:08 – RPS (Reference Point System) 8:55 – 2D Section 10:09 – Datum System 11:57 – Master Part 13:30 - Summary and Because three-dimensional scan data is collected independent of any datum structure, all alignments are performed after the mesh has been created. Any conceivable alignment can be computed within the software if there is enough quality scan data on the alignment surfaces. Occasionally, other surfaces (such as a fixture plate) can also be referenced as a datum surface. The ability to toggle in and out of alignments provides a versatile platform to assess your own production process, or to simply inspect any part. Having the ability to easily try different alignments allows you to quickly test and verify multiple possibilities regarding how to make adjustments and fix the problem.
