The word ‘rhombus’ strikes me as rather resonant in its sounds, and has a kind of solidity about it. I feel a little uneasy about this shape, though, perhaps because of the spooky associations that the face cards have had for me, since childhood, in a standard deck.
This is the finale of its very fifth-y clutch of Scarabs, and nimbly commits acts of mild harmonic outrage, which I hope a listener may find nonetheless pleasant and stimulating. Like much of this music, it could work very well as a duet, and perhaps bear a quicker tempo, if so treated.
It’s really hard for me to play, with some individual measures taking me hours, spread across almost a year, to get even to this state.
