This International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, we emphasize the need for children’s participation in disaster management and school safety monitoring. This year, the International Day observation focuses on increasing availability of and access to disaster risk information and assessments to people by 2030.
In partnership with DepEd and PrudenceFoundation, Save the Children developed the School Watching Application (SWApp) to raise awareness and engagement of children on school safety. Based on DepEd Order no. 23, s. 2015 entitled the “Student-led School Watching and Hazard Mapping,” this child-friendly mobile application engages learners in disaster preparedness and equips them with the necessary skills to address hazards in school and their surrounding environment.
