Scott Hamilton explains Spinning

A semi-regular feature we did on the PBS series Newton's Apple with celebrities called "Science of the Rich & Famous" - I got to do one with Olympic Gold medal figure skater Scott Hamilton explaining the physics of spinning. Of all the people we worked with, Scott was one of the better actors. When we arrived in Denver for the shoot I hadn't quite figured out the ending to the script and my A.P. Amy came up with the idea of Scott being his own on-camera commentator for the judge's scoring at the end. But we didn't know if we could get a tux for him that same day... so Scott says, "Oh no problem - I can just run home and grab mine. I live just five minutes from here." My DP sets up the wide shot lock-down and we record Scott on the ice waving to the crowd - then Scott jumps in his Porsche, fetches his tux, comes back, grabs a handheld mic and positions himself in the frame to put on the finishing touches. Just a pretty great guy.
