This is the same video that was originally uploaded in November, 2017. I have managed to brighten it up a little, and added a sound track. This is a very old technique, one that we used a lot for side borders on afghans and blankets. It really helps prevent the sides from rolling in, and is easy to accomplish. The band is knitted and joined to the main blanket using sew-as-you-go (sometimes called join-as-you-knit). At the top of the band, knit the last row so that the carriage ends up next to the blanket, not the outside edge of the band. Remove the outside edge stitch on a large safety pin, then bind off the remaining band stitches, working from the blanket side to the outside edge. You should end up with a stitch on the safety pin, and the yarn tail right beside it. Now follow the instructions in the video to join the band to the blanket. This is much faster than sewing, and it produces a very attractive seam. I hope you find this video helpful.
