Eric Wheaton discussing a few search techniques at the 2015 Orlando Fire Conference.
Firefighters tend to train extending off the wall with a tool in the sweeping hand. However, watch as they continue to poke at items in the room, never going to investigate what was touched by the tool. Remember a tool has no feeling, only the gloved hand of a well trained firefighter.
If we really stop and think about our own homes, there are not many places large enough to perform a "snow angel" sweep. The interior of homes are clogged with stuff such as furniture. The furniture in the room becomes our extension, reaching far into the open spaces. Use these extensions to your advantage and it may take back time during the search.
