Seattle has movable bridges crossing the Duwamish River Lake Washington Canal Union Canal. Oxbow Swing Bridge carrying 1st South Avenue was replaced with a double Leaf Bascule bridge, North Spokane Street Swing Bridge was replaced with a double Leaf Bascule bridge, then was replaced with a double Swing bridge. Grant Street Swing bridge was replaced with a South Park Scherzer Bascule Bridge, which was replaced with a double Leaf Trunnion Bascule bridge. Northern Pacific railroad Strauss Heel Trunnion Bascule Bridge was replaced with another Strauss Heel Trunnion Bascule Bridge later design for the Burlington Northern &Santa Fe Railroad. Latona Swing bridge was replaced with the University Bascule Bridge. The railroad hinged lift Bascule bridge was removed. Ballard Swing bridge was replaced with a double Leaf Bascule bridge, Fremont Bascule Bridge Montlake Bascule Bridge former Great Northern Railroad Strauss Heel Trunnion Bascule Bridge is still in heavy use for railroad traffic and in operation, but the Northern Pacific Railroad Strauss Heel Trunnion Bascule Bridge was removed in 1976
