🌕 Total Lunar Eclipse – March 3, 2026 | What It Is & Where to See It On March 3, 2026, skywatchers in parts of the world will be treated to a spectacular total lunar eclipse — one of the most beautiful celestial events we can observe with the naked eye. 🌙✨ In this video, I’ll explain what causes a lunar eclipse, why the Moon turns red, and where you can see this eclipse on Earth. 🌑 What Is a Lunar Eclipse? A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon. This alignment causes Earth’s shadow to fall on the Moon, blocking direct sunlight. Because sunlight passing through Earth’s atmosphere gets bent and filtered, mostly red wavelengths reach the Moon — giving it a dramatic reddish or “blood moon” appearance. This phenomenon can only occur during a full Moon. 🔴 Why the “Blood Moon”? During totality — the phase when the Moon is completely inside Earth’s central shadow (umbra) — the Moon doesn’t go dark. Instead, it can glow in shades of red, copper, or orange. That’s because Earth’s atmosphere scatters blue light and bends red light toward the Moon, similar to the colors we see at sunrise and sunset. 🗺️ Where and When It’s Visible This total lunar eclipse will be visible from large portions of the globe, depending on your local night time: 🌏 Asia & Australia — visible in the evening as the Moon rises already in eclipse. 🌊 Pacific Ocean region — most of the eclipse visible throughout the night. 🇺🇸 North & Central America — visible in the early morning hours before sunrise. 🌍 Some parts of South America see partial phases. 🌍 Europe and Africa — the eclipse isn’t visible because the Moon is below the horizon. The totality — when the Moon is fully eclipsed and glowing red — will last about 58 minutes, while the entire event (including partial and penumbral phases) spans over 5½ hours. 🧭 Tips for Watching You don’t need special equipment — the eclipse is safe to watch with your eyes. Binoculars or a small telescope can enhance the view. Find a spot with a clear view of the sky for the best experience.
