I have been saving seeds a very long time, and have been trading seeds online for more than fifteen years. I want to share some of the things I've learned with you. One of the most important things to know is how to tell if a seed is ripe or not. After that, you need to know how to store the seeds you have taken the time to save. For long term storage, after the seed is totally, completely dry, Sealed containers or plastic bags work beautifully, but until that seed is perfectly dry paper envelopes work better. There are a lot of methods used to fold a paper envelope, but the one I demonstrate is one of the easiest. It is quick to fold and doesn't require any kind of adhesive to stay closed. After you watch this demo on folding a seed envelope, you will see that there is really no reason to leave home without one. I found the following seed saving chart on the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association website. They put a good deal of time getting this great information together, so I'm linking to it here.
