Storage tanks often contain massive amounts of hazardous chemicals that pose fire hazards, environmental hazards, or other potentially disastrous impacts. Seismic events force liquids within tanks to slosh back and forth, creating potential release events. Likewise, seismic events may result in tanks slipping off their foundation or worse, a total loss of containment.
