Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA)
Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is a comprehensive system used by Dynamic Spine and Sports Therapy’s Doctors to evaluate and analyze movement patterns and dysfunctions in the human body. It aims to identify the root causes of pain, limitations, and imbalances that may contribute to injury or hinder optimal performance. SFMA is based on the principle that the body is an interconnected system, and issues in one area can often lead to compensations and problems in other areas. It assesses seven fundamental movement patterns, which include: -Cervical (Neck) Patterns -Shoulder Patterns -Multi-segmental Flexion (Spinal) Patterns -Multi-segmental Extension (Spinal) Patterns -Single-leg Stance (Balance) Patterns -Multi-segmental Rotation (Spinal) Patterns -Multi-segmental Flexion with Rotation (Spinal) Patterns The evaluation process involves a series of movement tests and observational analyses to identify faulty movement patterns, mobility restrictions, and stability issues. The practitioner uses a scoring system to prioritize dysfunctional patterns based on their significance and then proceeds with a more detailed assessment of those areas.
