Self-Hosted Password Manager (Passbolt Docker Guide)
I don’t trust cloud password managers with my credentials, so I built my own. Passwords are one of our most critical security assets and that’s exactly why I don’t trust cloud password managers with them. In this video, I show you how to self‑host Passbolt, an open‑source, security‑first password manager designed for teams and technical environments. We’ll deploy Passbolt using Docker, walk through the initial setup, configure users and groups, and take a look at the mobile and Windows apps. I’ll also cover security essentials like health checks, backups, SSL termination, and optional protection using a web application firewall. If you care about owning your data, avoiding vendor lock‑in, and keeping full control over your credentials, this video is for you. 🤝 Sponsor: Passbolt This video is sponsored by Passbolt Don’t forget to check them out 👉 https://hubs.li/Q045-WXV0 That said, all opinions are my own and you’ll find my honest, unfiltered feedback at the end of the video. 🔐 What you’ll learn in this video: - How to deploy Passbolt with Docker Compose - Initial admin setup and first login - Secure user and group management for teams - Using Passbolt on Android, iOS, and Windows - Health checks, logs, monitoring, and backups - Key differences between Passbolt Community Edition and Passbolt Pro - My honest opinion after running Passbolt in real environments ⚠️ This is not a “set it and forget it” cloud service. Passbolt is built for people who are comfortable running their own server — and that’s exactly what makes it powerful. 📁 Download commands Grab all commands used in this video: 👉 https://cloud.thesysadminhub.com/s/9YpQiHmR5YXrdyK 👍 If this video helped you, leave a like. 💬 Let me know in the comments if you’re self‑hosting your password manager or still using a cloud solution. 🔔 Subscribe for more self‑hosting, security, and open‑source content. 01:40 Intro 03:17 Agenda 06:18 Docker Setup 07:39 Reverse Proxy 13:10 WebUI 15:45 Apps (Phone + Windows) 18:00 Monitoring and Security 19:46 My Thoughts 💙 Support the Channel on Patreon Help me create high-quality tutorials on Linux servers, Docker containers, self-hosting, Mailcow, monitoring, and IT infrastructure.
