How do you know if your pain is really a hamstring injury or from somewhere else? There is a test you called the slump test. In the seated position, on your involved side, lift your foot up to the ceiling. Maintaining your foots position, extend your knee until you feel your symptom. While keeping your leg extended, press your foot down. Did this change your symptoms? Bring your foot back up to the up position. Now hold this position and slouch, does this change your symptoms? While in a slouched position, use your arms to take pressure of your back. Did your symptoms change? If you answered yes, then your hamstring pain, may not really be your hamstring, and quite possible be from your lumbar spine or sciatic nerve.
