Wiring up a hi-hat patch on a Doepfer A-100 modular synthesiser (but any modular subtractive synth should be able to do something like this, be it analogue or digital, hardware or software).
I'm using two separate MIDI channels to play both the open and closed hi-hat at the same time, then mixing the envelope generators together.
(The example rhythm was supposed to be swung, but I forgot to burn it in before exporting the MIDI file.)
