Duee needed more and showed his reaction to Deb with attitude! Duee wanted to circle, so we lunged to show him we can talk horse as well. He DID get touched by the whip today for not moving forward. He chose to stop, he did respond to it with bucking and kicking out. He was showing he wants to be lead horse and doesn't like what we are doing. He was not a fan of whips and Deb worked hard in the beginning years to show him she was using it to extend her space for safety and it was useful here.This is his personality, but if he is in charge he feels like he can wheel around and kick out at humans. THIS is the behavior we have seen some before and he needs to learn we know horse language as well. You want respect and safe behavior for you and ANYONE that is around your horse. Licking and chewing are responses that usually coordinate with learning and we find it a good response. Deb tends to be a little timid, hold back, and is working on consistent horse leader ship.
