Overview Estimation is the process of using sample data to draw inferences about the population. A statistic (such as the sample mean) used to estimate a parameter is called an estimator. The numerical value of the estimator is called an estimate. There are two types of estimates: point and interval estimates. In this session, we discuss interval estimation (confidence intervals) for the population mean and proportion. It also examines the sample size required for a pre-determined confidence interval.
