I gave a class on using generative AI for data analysis. Here is a screencast where I show how to install the tools that I used on a Windows computer:
1) LM Studio and a model
2) Node.js
3) Gemini CLI
4) Positron and Gemini CLI Companion extension
5) R
6) Python
I demonstrate these tools by showing how model parameters affect LLM's output, and vibe coding a simple game, regression analysis demonstration, and a demo script that connects to LM Studio running an LLM on the computer. I use a Mac for work, but could remotely log in to a computer lab computer to do the demo. This installation setup is challenging because I do not have administrator rights on the computer, and the security policy is somewhat restrictive. Setting up Node.js is the difficult part in the workflow, and I demonstrate how to use Gemini to do some of the configuration.
