Suction set up is one of the emergency equipment items we have in patient rooms. Suction can be used in an emergency if someone is having trouble maintaining their airway with secretions or is having issues with aspiration. It can be quickly converted to nasotracheal suction or deep oral suction for choking or excessive secretions.
Always check your rooms to see if there is suction available and set up!
