In this video, we wanted to quickly illustrate what happens if you don't hold your thread tails while sinking your needle to start a seam. Sewing machines are designed to use thread fed from the bobbin and the thread spool. As you can see, the tails themselves can be pulled into the machine if they are not held, which often leads to the needle coming unthreaded, bunched stitches and can even jam the machine. If you watch the tails, you'll see that roughly 1 cm of thread is pulled back into the machine. On some machines this is even more drastic and can often be up to 3 cm's of extra thread pulled in.
