The city of San Francisco is mostly surrounded by water. The San Francisco Fire Department has an extensive water rescue program that includes rescue swimmers, jet skis, rescue boats and 3 fire boats. Firefighters at selected fire stations must participate in this training to maintain their Surf Rescue certification.
