To address emissions reduction, Danone’s Balclutha plant in South Otago has installed New Zealand’s largest biomass boiler, powered by wood residues from local forestry. This $40 million initiative has already lowered CO2 emissions by 13,500 tons—equivalent to taking 7,900 cars off the road.
Aligned with their “Danone Impact Journey,” the plant also explores projects like cow water recovery, aiming to enhance sustainability while supporting the Balclutha community through conservation, events, and local partnerships.
